DARE What is it?

DARE (Disability Access Route to Education) is a third level alternative admissions scheme for school-leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second level education. DARE offers reduced points places to school leavers who, as a result of having a disability, have experienced additional educational challenges in second level education. Who can apply for DARE? DARE is for school leavers under the age of 23 as of 1st of January in the year of applying with a disability, who have been educationally impacted as a result of that disability. Applicants to DARE can present with an Irish Leaving Certi fi cate, A levels and/or other EU quali fi cations. To be eligible for DARE you must meet both the DARE Educational Impact Criteria and DARE Evidence of Disability Criteria. Applicants must provide the required evidence of their disability and provide an Educational Impact Statement from their school to be considered for DARE. How to apply for DARE? 1. Apply to CAO by 5.15pm on the 1st February 2022.

2. You must indicate in your CAO application no later than 5.15pm on 1st March 2022 that you wish to apply for the DARE scheme, and you must fully and correctly complete all elements of the DARE form (the DARE form is part of your CAO application). 3. Submit relevant evidence in support or your application to arrive at CAO no later than 5.15pm on the 15th March 2022. More Information:

Since moving on from GMIT, I have the luxury of using my knowledge from my degrees to set up a joint business venture with my father. From there, I have got myself a full-time position in a multinational company called Zimmer Biomet, in a position called MES Technician. Zimmer Biomet is based in Oranmore, Co. Galway. It is a global leader in musculoskeletal healthcare. In the MES Technician role, I have used my knowledge of SQL that I learned in GMIT to my advantage when creating queries in their own sophisticated programming tool. GMIT gave me the structure and tools in order to perform my job to the best of my ability by using all of the knowledge that I have acquired during my four happy and hardworking years there. I will never forget or regret my time in GMIT as I have great satisfying memories and friends for life! I would highly recommend GMIT to anyone!”

From day one, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in GMIT. As a wheelchair user, GMIT was extremely accessible which helped me settle in quite quickly. The Access Of fi ce were excellent in accommodating my needs and putting in place a brilliant Education Support Worker (ESW) in Mrs. Claire Parr…A friend for life!
