The Centre offers focused academic writing tuition to students of the Institute at all levels, in all years (including postgraduate), and across all disciplines. The tuition available takes the form of pre-bookable, thirty-minute, one-to-one sessions, directed by individual student need. The GMIT Academic Writing Centre is located in the Library Training Room (Room 973), on the ground fl oor of the Dublin Road campus. To avail of the services of the Academic Writing Centre: • Pre-book a session, up to two days in advance (Pre-book up to 24 hours in advance for Mayo Academic Writing Centre). • Have ready, for the session, a copy of the task as set by your lecturer and any writing guidelines or templates issued by your lecturer or department. • Bring, to the session, the relevant work-in-progress: this may consist of initial notes or ideas, preliminary research, partial drafts, or near-completed assignments. • Please note that the Academic Writing Centre offers practical, guided tuition in all aspects of academic writing, and should not be misunderstood as an editing or proofreading service. GMIT Maths Support Centre The GMIT Maths Support Centre was established to support the learning of mathematics by students outside of their Mathematics classes. The Centre, located in the Galway campus library, opens for two evenings per week during term. Students can use the tutorial resources of the centre on a drop-in basis without prior booking. Group tutorials are also possible. The tutors facilitate student learning of a particular mathematics topic by working through a speci fi c problem or problems with the student. Overseen by the Institute's mathematics lecturers, the Centre is not intended to substitute for student attendance at the regular timetabled mathematics lectures and tutorials.
