Student experience

Brian Melia After completing my degree, I immediately began work as a Process Scientist with Glan Agua based in Loughrea, Co. Galway. Glan Agua are a water treatment company involved in the design, build and operation of water treatment plants throughout Ireland and the UK, whose clients include Irish Water and local authorities. I am currently working as a Project Engineer within the company. The skills I acquired in final year greatly helped me gain employment within the water industry especially my final year dissertation which looked at the impacts of motorway construction on aquatic biodiversity and water quality. The lecturers were extremely helpful, and the mix of theory and practical modules were very beneficial. The course also appealed to me as I am in partnership with my parents on the family farm. Both the Agriculture and Environmental sectors are rapidly expanding with excellent job prospects in both sectors and I would highly recommend this course as it provides the skill set required in today’s work environment.
