Follow-on studies Level 6 graduates may progress to third year of the BA in Culture and Environment at GMIT Mayo. Level 7 graduates may progress to the Level 8 BA (Hons) in History & Geography (add-on) at GMIT Mayo. Level 6 & 7 graduate may also progress to related courses in GMIT or other institutes. There is a range of post-graduate opportunities for our Level 8 graduates. Graduates of the course are eligible to apply for the Professional Master of Education for teaching at second level. In addition, graduates have progressed to post-graduate study at Masters and Doctoral level in areas including History, Archaeology, Rural Development, Architectural Conservation, Arts and Heritage Management, Medieval Studies and GIS.

They provide graduates with a range of transferable skills in digital media, mapping and communications that are valued by employers. You will learn in many ways in the classroom, in our customised lab, through practical sessions and field trips with a particular focus on history and geography throughout. You will also have the opportunity to undertake work experience with a relevant host organisation.

Liam Loftus I graduated in 2013 and have found my degree to be a great benefit to finding work both at home and abroad. I have worked for the Raincoast Organisation mapping GIS data and as a park ranger for British Columbia parks Canada. Work Experience Students have the opportunity to complete work experience as part of their studies, providing valuable practical experience and industry contacts. Host organisations include national and local development agencies, heritage centres, national and regional museums and biodiversity conservation projects. What are my career opportunities? Graduates have found employment as arts administrators, local authority planning officers, museum curators and education officers, in ecological and conservation research posts in the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Marine Institute, and other

What I liked most about the degree course was its multidisciplinary nature. I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in getting a better understanding of natural and cultural environments at both a national and international level.
