NUI Galway Postgraduate Prospectus 2021

Researcher Profile “I found myself extremely lucky to be an awardee of the NUI Galway Hardiman Research Scholarship, that not only provided me with the opportunity to learn in a world- class research and innovation environment, but also helped me transform my career. The unique feature of the Hardiman Scholarship that helped me excel is the formal training of innovation, applied and translational research methods and entrepreneurship. NUI Galway has a distinctive ecosystem of research and innovation, with the presence of a large medtech hub, clinical and translational research facilities, local and accessible industry, and structured postgraduate research programmes to equip the Hardiman Research Scholars with applied and career focused skills. With the training received during my PhD journey as a Hardiman scholar, and the supervision and mentorship of world leaders in specialised areas of research at NUI Galway, I quickly established my career track and have been very successful at achieving my career goals to date. I also know, via the Hardiman Network, that my fellow scholars are all at the forefront, whether they chose careers in industry or academia.

Coming from a different cultural background, I found myself warmly welcomed in the culturally rich west of Ireland, and I experienced social openness to other cultures and social values. My personal

experience of life in Galway has been extremely pleasant, and that has made me stay in Galway after my PhD.”
