NUI Galway Postgraduate Prospectus 2021

Sustaining our planet and people Supporting changes Transformational changes are necessary in the decades ahead for human society to steer itself towards development pathways that are more sustainable than at present. As human population heads towards 9 billion people by 2050, resource demands are increasing, placing major stresses on our planet. There is a pressing need for multi-disciplinary research and innovations that can deliver sustainable development impacts and outcomes. Such innovations are necessary to change the current trajectory of environmental change so that we can stay within a ‘safe operating space for humanity.’ Human activities should not cross critical planetary boundaries that will compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The Ryan Institute’s researchers are delivering the research and innovations that are necessary to address key sustainability challenges in areas such as climate change, energy, marine, agriculture, health, urban habitats and environment. If you are interested in making your contribution to sustainable development, then the Ryan Institute at NUI Galway is where you need to be.
