Farm Facilities at GMIT Mountbellew • Total area farmed 122ha • 100+ cow dairy herd; 50% pedigree Holstein & 50% crossbred • 40-unit calf to beef enterprise, sheep flock of 250 ewes • 20ha forestry • 30ha raised bog • Livestock housing & handling facilities • Farm machinery and machinery workshops • Farm buildings and workshops

Note Graduates of the Level 7 Bachelor degree, or Level 8 Bachelor (Honours) degree in • Rural Enterprise and Agri-Business

• Agriculture and Environmental Management automatically qualify to farm and for agricultural grant aids. (After two years, students can opt to apply for a Level 6 Higher Certificate, which gives the same entitlement to farm and for grant aids.) The Level 8 programme in Agriculture Engineering has been also approved as one of the qualifications which meets the requirements for Young Trained Farmer Status for the purpose of farm inheritance, grant aids, and tax exemptions. In order to comply with the requirements, students will complete an additional 5 credits per year.
