GMIT Prospectus 2021/22

GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES

Many courses in GMIT offer students the opportunity to study abroad or complete an international work placement. These will enhance your employability prospects in today’s globalised economy. Study Abroad Students can apply to study abroad for a semester or a year, depending on their degree structure. We have Study Abroad opportunities in place with numerous EU Universities , supported by the Erasmus + Mobility Grant. We also have some Study Abroad opportunities with partner colleges/universities outside the EU - in the USA, Canada and Brazil and more. Many students tell us that studying abroad was the best time of their life. The majority of our students study abroad through English, however, some students undertaking a foreign language module may have the option to study through this language, depending on their language ability/fluency.

Work Placement Several degrees in GMIT include an international work placement. In some instances, grant aid is available to support students on these placements. These grants are facilitated by the International Office. The Erasmus+ Mobility Programme Study Abroad and Work Placement opportunities in the EU are supported by The Erasmus+ Mobility Programme. GMIT has been awarded an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 by the European Commission where they commit to support, facilitate and recognize your mobility activities. GMIT has participated in the Erasmus+ programme for over 25 years and scores of GMIT students have undertaken part of their studies abroad at one of our partner colleges.

“My Erasmus experience in GMIT can be summed up as one of the best years I have lived so far. You may be reluctant to go abroad, to change countries, to face a new language, a new culture and you might feel homesick at first. But I made many encounters and got to be part of something very warm and inter-cultural. The teachers care a lot about international students and take time after class if needed so you can understand the class. The structure of GMIT itself is made so that you can feel at home, the library and IT centre are modern and welcoming, the silence is respected. There are places to enjoy a coffee break and enjoy your meal. And the International Office plans a lot of party and mingling events that are very enjoyable. The best part are the extracurricular activities, they are so enjoyable, the Yoga Club, the Gastrolife Club and the Student Choir... I met so many nice people there, and it is a good way to relieve some stress. To conclude, GMIT is a very good school where they not only offer teaching, but a whole student life experience.”
