STUDENT SERVICES

The Access and Disability Service The Access and Disability Service provides a range of supports and services for students applying to GMIT and attending full-time and part-time courses within the Institute. It facilitates equality of access and participation for all students.

The following supports are available: • Learning Support • Interpreters • Personal Assistants • Note-takers • Academic Support (1:1 and in small groups) • Alternative induction • Alternative print format • Radio Aids • Accessible class location

• Note takers • Mentoring • Assistive technology • Assistive technology training • Examination support and examination accommodations • Photocopying service

The office supports students with: • Physical and Sensory disabilities • Students with significant on-going illnesses • Students with mental health difficulties • Students on the autism spectrum • Students with learning difficulties e.g. dyslexia

Students with disabilities are advised to contact the Access and Disability Service in advance of commencing their course or as early as possible in the academic year so that supports can be put in place. Registering with the Access & Disability Service If you have applied to DARE and have been offered a place in GMIT we will be in contact with you. The Learning Support person for your area will make contact to arrange a meeting with you on a 1:1 basis. At this meeting supports will be put in place that meet your learning needs. education and completed an Honours Degree in Bachelor of Arts in Information Systems Management. Since moving on from GMIT, I have the luxury of using my knowledge from my degrees to set up a joint business venture with my father. From there, I have got myself a full-time position in a multinational company called Zimmer Biomet, in a position called MES Technician. Zimmer Biomet is based in Oranmore, Co. Galway. It is a global leader in musculoskeletal healthcare. In the MES Technician role, I have used my knowledge of SQL that I learned in GMIT to my advantage when creating queries in their own sophisticated programming tool. GMIT gave me the structure and tools in order to perform my job to the best of my ability by using all of the knowledge that I have acquired during my four happy and hardworking years there. I will never forget or regret my time in GMIT as I have great satisfying memories and friends for life! I would highly recommend GMIT to anyone!”

From day one, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in GMIT. As a wheelchair user, GMIT was extremely accessible which helped me settle in quite quickly. The Access Office were excellent in accommodating my needs and putting in place a brilliant Education Support Worker (ESW) in Mrs. Claire Parr…A friend for life! I studied Bachelor of Business in Administration and Information Systems (Ordinary) from 2013 to 2016. During my three years completing this degree I learned all the various aspects of computing from using a website editor to creating a newsletter. In 2017, I then went onto further my
