Higher Certificate in Hotel and Hospitality Operations

Why study Hotel and Hospitality Operations? This programme provides an excellent introduction to the world of Hotel and Hospitality Operations, inclusive of bar and restaurant training. Students will gain hands on practical experience in the College training facilities serving customers, as well as studying relevant business modules. The programme design and structure provides a wonderful platform for students to adapt to third level education, while providing the opportunity to progress towards a Level 7 and Level 8 qualification. Through training in our restaurants, bar and rooms facilities, students will gain professional and technical skills essential for all hospitality professionals, in a teacher led, relaxed environment. In addition, as a result of your training in these departments you will gain a full understanding of the role of quality service in the industry, ensuring that you provide an outstanding service experience for all visitors to your place of work. Finally, students on this programme can expect to participate in field trips to local and national properties, which will support their college-based learning activities.

Field Trips Field trips are considered an essential part of the learning experience for students. An additional fee of €100 applies for field trips. What are my career opportunities? Graduates gain employment in the operational aspect of the hospitality industry such as restaurant service, bar, front office and accommodation. Follow-on Studies Graduates may progress to the final year of the Bachelor of Business in Hotel & Catering Management (Level 7).

As students will have worked in several different departments during their time in college, work placement opportunities would be plentiful and well within the capabilities of the student. If students are considering an international career, the College would encourage students to study an international language during their two years of study, and to complete their international placement in a location that

I am looking forward to graduation, and this programme has mapped my progression to continue in education and complete the BA (Honours) in International Hotel Management. In 2010 the Institute agreed an exchange partnership with Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island, USA to include student and faculty exchange across a range of disciplines throughout the Institute.
