Why study International Hotel Management? The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in International Hotel Management is a four-year full time programme. This programme has a long-established excellent reputation and was the first hotel management degree to be offered in Ireland. Many of our graduates hold senior management positions within the sector worldwide. Lecturers who teach on this programme are highly-skilled professionals with many years industry experience. This Internationally recognised degree presents the opportunity to travel the world and work in this dynamic and exciting sector. The Galway International Hotel School has reputable links with hotel groups in Ireland, Europe, USA, and Canada. This programme aims to provide learners with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for a successful career in management. Teaching is delivered through a range of practical and academic learning styles to maximise the student learning experience. What will I study?

What are my career opportunities? This degree will prepare you for employment at graduate management level within all aspects of the hospitality industry from restaurant/bars to five-star hotel properties. This programme was developed in collaboration with industry professionals from the Hospitality Sector. This process ensures that programmes remain up to date with current trends thus enhancing employability opportunities. Work Placement At the end of Year 1 - students will undertake a mandatory 12-week work placement in Ireland. At the end of Year 2 - students will undertake a mandatory 30-week work placement internationally. Our industry Links Office, together with the academic team, will assist students in making the best possible choices for their placements. These placements are an integral part of student learning. Students will undertake a number of exciting field trips throughout the programme, and the school also engages with high profile guest lecturers from industry, all of which are deemed essential to enhancing student learning. Recognition by Professional Bodies Graduates are eligible to join multiple hospitality organisations worldwide. Details are shared with students as they progress through their programme. Follow-on Studies GMIT honours (Level 8) qualifications are recognised worldwide for postgraduate entry.

Student experience

Tom Flanagan Tom graduated from the Galway International Hotel School in 1993 and subsequently graduated from De Montfort University, Birmingham. Tom joined Rezidor in 1999 as Service Manager at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Scandinavia in Copenhagen, later he was promoted to Front Office Manager at the Radisson SAS Hotel Beijing. In 2002, he was appointed Hotel Operations Manager at The Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel Manama – followed by positions as Hotel Manager of the

Radisson SAS Hotel Hamburg and as General Manager of the Radisson SAS Hotel Galway. Since March 2008, Tom has been working as the Regional Director for Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China, based in Istanbul. Tom arrived in Russia in 2009 to take on the position of Regional Director Russia, CIS, Baltics, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and China. He was promoted to his current position in 2010. As Area Vice-President, Tom is in charge of operational issues for over 46 hotels that are working under Radisson and Park Inn by Radisson brands in Eastern Europe.

Students may select elective modules each semester to enhance their learning and skills.
